epocha grec e roman non habeva transportos public,

When we examine the history of urban transport,
the principal factor that impresses us is how often
and how completely it changes because of the
interaction of social, economic, and technological
factors. It is especially notable that technical
innovation occurs only under the pressure of social
and financial factors.

The first revolution was the start of public urban
transport itself. It seems that cities in Greek
and Roman times did not have public transportation,
though imperial Rome was big enough to need it.

Medieval and Renaissance cities were compact, and
people could easily walk from one part of such cities
to others. But in the nineteenth century, thanks
to the expansion of industry and the demolition
of urban walls, cities started to expand, and the
need for better urban transport became obvious.
