Hi Everyone,

I only received three responses on this subject. All were negative about
using a mail order pharmacy. One person said that most all major drug
manufacturers are now adding gluten to their medication. (That has not
been my findings.)

I did contact Steven Plogsted who runs the website www.glutenfreedrugs.com.
I also researched the FDA website for their comments on gluten in
pharmaceuticals. Following is what I discovered:

Steven Plogsted said that "The risk of receiving a medication that
contains any gluten is very rare and this is according to the FDA". Also,
my question to him "Has that been your experience as well? I know it has
been a long time since we found gluten in a prescription medication." His
response to my question " Yes. I actually worked with a pharmacy group
who worked with elements of the FDA and this is what we found regarding
gluten in medications."

From the FDA website: *Typically, how much gluten is in a drug product?*

The vast majority of oral drug products either contain no gluten or
virtually no gluten. In the very rare cases where gluten may be present, we
estimate based on drug formulation information that wheat starch and other
ingredients derived from wheat would contribute no more than 0.5 mg gluten
to a unit dose of an oral drug product. This amount is less than may be
found in a single 30-gram serving of food labeled gluten-free according to
FDA’s regulations.

(From me....30 grams equals 6 teaspoons)

Based on the above information and our experience over the past 20 years
regarding gluten in medication, we are going to try using the Mail Order
pharmacy and see how it goes.

This is a very personal decision and one that you have to make for
yourself. I am not advocating that you do what we are doing. Please make
your own informed decision.

To those who responded, thank you for your comments.
