Thanks to everyone who responded to my inquiry asking about GF dining options in Charlottesville, VA and DC (especially near the Mall and Columbia Heights).

For Charlottesville:

There were 3 recommendations for Burton's Grill and one each for the following establishments: Mellow Mushroom (GF pizza), Travinia Italian Kitchen, Citizen Burger Bar (GF buns), and Trader Joe's (for groceries).

For DC:

There were 2 recommendations for the cafeteria at the American Indian Museum and one for Nando Peri-Peri.

glutenfreetravelsite.com was recommended as an additional source of information.

In Charlottesville, we ended up eating at Revolutionary Soup. This was casual dining. The food was good and clearly labeled. We had reservations to eat at Burton's Grill later in our stay but got a stomach virus (nothing related to food) and had to cancel.

In DC, we ate at

1) the American Indian Museum. The food was not labeled GF, but most items seemed to be GF. The food was good and unusual for cafeteria dining.

2) 5 Guys because it was right outside the Columbia Heights Metro station.

3) Zenebech Restaurant (one Metro stop away from Columbia Heights), near the Howard Theatre. They had gluten free injera. The food was extremely tasty and inexpensive, but I think they mostly focus on take out so the ambience was bare bones. However, I think I heard that they were closing soon to scout a new location.

Thanks again!

Ann
