Allan citava un quotation de Andre Martinet, uno que multe
esperantistas ha citate, pro bon rationes.

"My conclusion is that the problem of a language for
international communication presents itself as the
conflict between a planned language, Esperanto, which
is known to function to the satisfaction of its users,
and a hegemonic national language, which, as we all
know, is, today, English."

"Mi conclusion es que le problema de un lingua pro
le communication international se presenta como un
conflicto inter un lingua planate, esperanto, que, como
on sape, functiona al satisfaction de su usatores, e
un lingua national hegemonic, que, como nos omnes sape,
es, hodie, anglese."

Isto veni de su breve essayo "The Proof of the Pudding...", que es
un sorta de prefacio al volumine "Interlinguistics" (1988), un
collection de articulos sur le interlinguistica de un tendencia
fortemente esperantista. In le mundo academic isto es un strategia
promotori normal: on trova un grande homine pro donar su prestigio
al labores collective de gentes multo minus cognoscite. Le titulo es
parte de un proverbio anglese, "the proof of the pudding is in the
eating" (le prova del dulcio es le mangiar), per que ille exprimeva
su durabile preoccupation pro le latere practic del interlinguistica.

In 1989 ille exprime su amicitate e admiration pro le complimentos
del movimento esperantista. Proque non? Io participa in su
admiration. Totevia, su commentario non es sin critica de
esperanto:

"As a linguist, I am still convinced that many, if not all, of the
criticisms leveled against Esperanto by supporters of other planned
languages were perfectly valid. Were the vocabulary of Esperanto
closer to international usage, the present volume [Interlinguistics]
would not have to be written in English in order to secure the
diffusion it deserves."

"Como linguistico, io resta convincite que multes, si non totes, del
criticas dirigite contra esperanto per appoiantes del altere linguas
planate era toto valide. Si le vocabulario de esperanto era plus
proxime al usage international, on non deberea scriber le volumine
[Interlinguistics] actual in anglese pro assecurar le diffusion que
illo merita."

Proque esque Martinet non includeva interlingua como un tertie
alternativo inter Eo e anglese? Io expecta que hodie, 1999, ille
le includeva de facto. In 1988,  ille opinionava - multo
probabilemente - que interlingua era un causa morte o moriente.
Si io me memora correctemente, un del essayistas de
"Interlinguistics" assereva que il habeva "ancora"  400
interlinguistas in le mundo. Un "facto" fornite per le malitia,
non per le realitate.
