> Dear all,
>
> The 1997 International Ido-Konfero took place in Bakkum, Netherlands,
> 1-4 August 1997. The participants came from Britain, the US,
> the Netherlands, France, Belgium, Spain, Germany, Poland and
> Benin (Africa). Two substantial meetings were held, at which
> were discussed the promotion and also the linguistic evolution
> of Ido. The atmosphere was constructive and friendly, and the
> participants cautiously optimistic about the future prospects for
> Ido.
>
> Many ideas for promotion were proposed, but no really ideal
> strategy was decided upon. The importance of the internet,
> however, was recognised, and it was decided that information
> on Ido in at least the languages represented at the conference
> should be provided on the web as soon as possible. The
> linguistic discussions were interesting and positive, but all
> in all there was insufficient time to reach any agreement.
> It was decided, however, that all words adopted in the future
> would be promptly published in Progreso, as participants felt
> it was currently too difficult to find out this information.
>
> The conference was visited by journalists on Friday afternoon,
> and on Monday a substantial article appeared in the national
> Dutch newspaper "de Volkskrant", under the heading "`Dwaze
> idealisten' vechten voor een wereldtaal", with the front page
> heading "In Bakkum spreekt heel de wereld kunsttaal Ido".
> The conference finished with the announcement of next year's
> conference in Poland. The conference will take place at the
> beginning of August, and it is hoped that its taking place in
> Poland will help to promote Ido among East-Europeans. All are
> invited to attend.
>
> On the Sunday a Polish Esperantist attended, and gave his best
> wishes to the conference and to the Ido movement. He said he
> hoped for cooperation between the two movements, and invited
> the partcipants to an Esperanto conference in Poland later this
> year. He also presented the president of the international
> movement for Ido, G. Anton (Germany) with a gift, for which he
> was warmly thanked.
>
> If you would like more information on the conference, on Ido,
> or on next year's conference in Poland, do not hesitate to
> ask me.
