FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

At a meeting of its Board on January 4, 1998,
the Directors of the Interlingua Institute unanimously
elected Frank Esterhill as the new President of that
organization. He was trained in Greek and Latin at
Boston College, Columbia University and at the
Freie Universitat (Berlin). Since 1973 he has been
Executive director of the Interlingua Institute (New York).
He served as Secretary of the American Translators
Association (ATA) in 1974. He has spoken at meetings
of ATA and of the Modern Language Association and
published in various professional journals. From 1965-1970,
he translated Greek texts for the History of Linguistics Project
at Columbia University. He was also chiefly responsible for
the Interlingua translations in the two volumes of the
Multilingual
Compendium of Plant Diseases published by the American
Phytopathological Society (1976 and 1977) for the U.S.
Department of Agriculture. Special interests include
lexicography, language standardization, language planning.
