Israel's government suspended its purchases of
Microsoft Office software and is seeking a
lower-priced
alternative.  A spokesman for the Finance Ministry
told the Associated Press on Tuesday que some agencies
don't need the entire software package, but Microsoft
refused to sell only parts of it.

Israel has cooperated with Sun Microsystems and
IBM on the Hebrew-language version of OpenOffice
software, a freely distributed open-source alternative
to Microsoft Office. ...  The governments of Britain,
Brazil, Japan, South Korea, China and Russia also
are exploring alternatives to Microsoft.
