(Joan e Jacqueline sono a Napoli da tre giorni, ed
hanno già visitato i posti più interessanti.

(Hanno fatto una gita a Capri e alla grotta azzurra;
hanno fatto una gita ad Amalfi; hanno passato diverse
ore a Pompei, e hanno visitato la bellissima galleria,
dove hanno preso una granita de caffè.

(Interesantissima è stata la visita al Museo
Nazionale.  Ora è l'una del pomeriggio, e sono sedute
a un tavolino de uno dei ristoranti sul golfo.)


Jacqueline:  In questa lista ci sono tutte le
specialità napoletane.

Joan:  Io non ho mica molta fame.  Mi basterebbe un
paio d'uova.

Jacqueline:  Tu scherzi!  Dobbiamo assaggiare gli
spaghetti alle vongole.  Dov'è andato il cameriere?

Joan:  È quel giovane alto con la giacca bianca che
sta parlando con uno dei musicisti.  Non c'è fretta,
io sono un po' stanca; infatti mi fa male una scarpa,
e vorrei restare seduta per un'oretta.

Jacqueline:  C'erano tante sale in quel museo che
avremo camminato almeno due miglia.

Joan:  È vero.  Ma pensa quante centinaia di cose
abbiamo veduto!

Jacqueline:  È senza dubbio uno dei più bei musei
ch'io abbia mai visto.

Joan:  Non so ancora se l'anno venturo ritornerò in
Italia, ma se ci ritorno verrò di nuovo a Napili.

Jacqueline:  A me mi dispiace di non esserci potuta
venire prima.  Che cosa faremo dopo colazione?

Joan:  Finita la colazione, prenderemo una carrozza e
faremo una passeggiata lungo il mare.

Jacquelina:  È un'ottima idea.

Joan:  Chi sa se fa molto freddo qui a Napoli
nell'inverno?

Jacqueline:  Non so, ma non credo che faccia molto
freddo.  Credo, però, che l'autunno e la primavera
siano le stagioni migliori.

Joan:  Senti!  I musicisti hanno incominciato a
suonare una canzonetta.

Jacqueline:  Si.  È carina.  Ed ecco il cameriere.

Joan:  Meno male!  Adesso ho fame anch'io!

Joan:  Vermente, io non ha multe fame.  Me bastarea
duo ovos.

Jacqueline:  Tu burla!  Nos debe essayar le spaghetti
con bivalvos infante.  Ubi ha vadite le garson?

Joan:  Ille es ille juvene alte con le jachetta blanc
qui parla con un ex le musicos.  Il non ha ulle ration
pro hastar nos.  Io es un pauco fatigate.  Vermente,
me irrita un scarpa, e io volerea restar sedite un
hora.

Jacqueline:  Il habeva tante salas in ille museo que
probabilemente nos ha ambulate al minus duo millias.

Joan:  Vermente.  Ma pensa quante centos de cosas nos
ha vidite!

Jacqueline:  Illo es sin dubita un ex le plus belle
museos que io unquam ha vidite.

Joan:  Io non sape ancora si le anno proxime io
retornara a Italia, ma si io retorna, io vadera de
novo a Neapolis!

Jacqueline:  Io regretta que io non ha potite venir
hic plus tosto.  Que facera nos post le prandio?

Joan:  Post finir lo, nos prendera un cochi e facera
un viage al latere del mar.

Jacqueline:  Illo es un idea optime!

Joan:  Io me demanda si le tempore invernal es frigide
hic in Neapolis.

Jacqueline:  Io non sape, ma io non crede que il
es/sia multo frigide.  Io crede tamen que le autumno e
le primavera es le stationes del anno le plus
agradabile.

Joan:  Audi.  Le musicos ha comenciate sonar un canto
popular.

Jacqueline:  Si.  Illo es belle.  E ecce le garson.

Joan:  Gratias a Deo.  Io nunc ha fame io mesme.

(Joan and Jacqueline have been in Naples three days
and have already visited the most interesting places.

(They have taken a trip to Capri and to the Blue
Grotto; they have taken a drive to Amalfi; they have
spent several hours in Pompei, and they have visited
the very beautiful Arcade, where they had an iced
coffee.

(Their visit to the National Museum was very
interesting.  Now it's one in the afternoon, and they
are seated at a small table in one of the restaurants
along the gulf.)


Jacqueline:  On this menu they have all the Neapolitan
specialties.

Joan:  I'm really not very hungry.  I'd be happy with
two eggs.

Jacqueline:  You are kidding!  We must try their
spaghetti with baby clams.  Where did the waiter go?

Joan:  He's that tall young man with the white coat
who is talking with one of the musicians.  There's no
hurry.  I'm a little tired; in fact, one of my shoes
hurts me, and I'd like to sit for about an hour.

Jacqueline:  There were so many rooms in that museum
that we must have walked at least two miles.

Joan:  That's true.  But think of how many hundreds of
things we have seen!

Jacqueline:  Undoubtedly it's one of the most
beautiful museums I have ever seen.

Joan:  I don't know yet whether next year I'll come
back to Italy, but if I do I will come to Naples
again.

Jacqueline:  I'm sorry I was unable to come here
sooner.  What shall we do after lunch?

Joan:  Once we have finished lunch we'll take a
carriage and go for a ride along the coast.

Jacqueline:  An excellent idea.

Joan:  I wonder if it's very cold here in Naples in
the winter?

Jacqueline:  I don't know, but I don't believe it's
very cold.  I believe, however, that fall and spring
are the best seasons.

Joan:  Listen!  The musicians have started playing a
popular song.

Joan:  Yes.  It's pretty.  Here's the waiter.

Joan:  Thank Heavens!  Now I too am hungry.
