Le anglese appoia "peripetias".  Secundo mi grande Webster's Dictionary in
INFOPEDIA il ha:

peripeteia n  [Gk, fr. peripiptein to fall around, change suddenly,
fr. peri- + piptein to fall  more at FEATHER] (1591) : a sudden or
unexpected reversal of circumstances or situation esp. in a literary work.

peripety  n  , pl  -ties (1753) : PERIPETEIA
