Un lusophono qui contribue a iste foro, il pare,
vole saper si il esserea possibile usar
<http://www.systransoft.com> pro traducer le reporto
general de IALA al portugese.

Si on vole usar le servicio gratuite de systransoft,
il esserea necesse divider iste reporto a in parve
partes de 150 parolas o minus. Le systema gratuite
non accepta textos plus grande que 150 parolas.

Probabilemente on pote comprar partes de systransoft
o omne le systema e passar textos plus grande trans
illo. Io regretta multissimo que io mesme non pote
facer isto.

Ma mesmo si on compra omne le systema, probabilemente
un traduction preliminar del reporto de IALA esserea
assatis primitive e confuse, e il esserea necesse
rediger lo substantialmente.

Un persona qui volerea producer un version de iste
reporto in portugese o ulle ex le altere linguas

tempores. In le futuro io va explorar su capacitates
currente per rediger parve textos in anglese e
traducer
los a francese, italiano, espaniol, portugese,
germano,
e hollandese. Iste textos io va montar a iste sito
de maniera que alteres pote evaluar los e forsan
facer lor proprie explorationes del possibilitates
currente de traduction con systransoft.

Ben que le capacitates de systransoft es assatis
limitate in iste momento, ante solmente dece o vinti
annos multes credeva que il esserea impossibile
construer systemas electronic que poterea producer
traductiones del qualitate que nunc es intra le
capacitates de systransoft.

Io es multo confidente que le versatilitate de
systemas
de traduction electronic e le qualitate de lor
travalio
meliorara constantemente con le tempore. Forsan
tal systemas nunquam potera traducer obras literari
como le Comedia Divin de Dante a altere linguas,
ma certemente illos gradualmente adjuvara linguistas
human a producer traductiones assatis exacte e practic
sur un crescente varietate de themas, reducente
significante lor labores durante que le capacitates
de iste tipo de systemas cresce. E illo essera
un complimento multo significante!

(Un altere possibilitate es que systemas del futuro
gradualmente potera imitar le stilos de traduction
de lor redactores human post observar le cambios
que illes face al traductiones preliminar producite
per le systema. Intra certe limites, il pare que
le systema disveloppate in Egypto pro traducer inter
le arabe e le anglese jam pote facer isto.)

A Portuguese speaker who contributes to this forum,
it seems, wants to know if it would be possible
to use <http://systransoft.com> to translate IALA's
general report into Portuguese.

If someone wants to use Systransoft's cost-free
service, it would be necessary to divide this report
into small parts of 150 words or less. The free
system does not accept texts that are longer than
150 words.

Probably it's possible to buy parts of systransoft or
the entire system and feed longer texts through it. I
am very sorry that I myself can't do this.

But even if a person buys the entire system, most
likely a preliminary translation of the IALA report
would be rather primitive and confusing, and it
would be necessary to clean it up substantially.

Someone wanting to produce a version of this report
in Portuguese or any of the other languages that
systran has added to its system should know English
well enough to consult it when the preliminary
translations of systran are a bit confused.
Naturally,
such a person should also be a native user of the
target language of the translation.

It is evident that a lot of work is being done to
add languages to systransoft and to improve the
quality of the translations that it produces. Some
years ago, systransoft was not able to translate
English past tenses very well into the Romance
languages because it could not determine whether
the imperfect or the preterite should be used in
many contexts.

It seems evident that systransoft now is at least
a little bit more intelligent in the translation
of these tenses. In the future I am going to explore
its current capacities by producing small texts
in English and translating them into French, Italian,
Spanish, Portuguese, German, and Dutch. These texts
I will mount onto this site so that others can
evaluate
them and perhaps explore for themselves the current
possibilities of translating with systransoft.

Though the capacities of systransoft are rather
limited at this moment, only ten or twenty years
ago many people believed that it would be impossible
to construct machine-translation systems that could
produce translations that are now well within the
capabilities of systransoft.

I am very confident that the versatility of
machine-translation systems and the quality of their
work will improve constantly as time goes on. Perhaps
such systems will never be able to translate literary
works like the Divine Comedy of Dante into other
languages, but certainly they will gradually help
human linguists to produce rather exact and practical
translations on a growing variety of subjects,
reducing
significantly their work as the capabilities of
systems like these increase. And that will be a
very significant accomplishment!

(Another possibility is that future systems will
gradually be able to imitate the translation styles
of their human after observing the changes they
make in the preliminary translations produced by
the system. Within certain limits, it seems that
the system developed in Egypt for translating between
Arabic and English can already do this.)
