Car amicos:

1. Quante personas es activimente involvite in Interlingua?

IO dice iste proque io pote lege e comprende multo espaniol, jam io non pote apprender illo parlar tan rapide como io pote interlingua, io non crede.

Multe gracias a tute
Michael Edwards

Dear friends:

I have a few thoughts/questions that I would like to share with you in this letter. Since taking a bit of time to write in interlingua on this list and learn more about it, I have truly enjoyed it. I've been doing some thinking and here is what I'd like to discuss regarding this beautiful language:

1. How many people are actively involved in Interlingua? For example, is there a list of how many people are subscribed to this email list? If so, would it be possible for us to show that list so that we have a better idea of people we can communicate with without using the list?

2. What organizations exist for the promotion of Interlingua besides the UMI?

3. Are there any current efforts to make a modern book that will teach basic to conversational Interlingua? Esperanto has several such books published by even major publishers and can be found in any american bookstore. Interlingue (also known as Auli-Prim) has a television show and a book that teaches the language to its organizations members. Do not mistake that I think these languages are "better" than Interlingua, since that's not the point. I ask, because if the language is to be spread it would make sense for such a work to be done. If one is not in the works, and if there were several individuals who would work on such a book in their native tongues, would it have to be granted permission by the UMI? It seems to me that Interlingua needs to promote itself more and in a more modern way to reach a greater mass of people.

4. How many people are actually audibly using Interlingua and not just typing it? I have heard of the people that have ICQ and used that, but how often and with how much success?

I guess that for me, if I'm going to continue to use Interlingua it would be something I would want to speak quite regularly, otherwise I lose interest with only typing and reading. I say this because I can read and comprehend much Spanish yet I cannot learn it to speak as fast as I can Interlingua, I do not believe.

5. When is the next conference for Interlingua and where? If there is an American organization, could one be organized for here in the States?

I hope I didn't overwhelm you all with questions, but they are definitely things that I would like to know.

Thank you all
Michael Edwards
