I´m Portuguese and I find amazing the idea of using an auxiliary language, although I don´t speak any. Interlingua seems to me, as a Latin, very easy to understand. Speaking of differences between Portuguese from Portugal and Portuguese from Brazil, I think it´s not just the sound of the words that is different: there are many grammatical forms that are different, specially prepositions. The way sentences are built is not the same, either, and there are many words used in one of the countries and not in the other. I lived in Brazil for 8 months and it was a bit difficult for me to communicate, although I spoke slowly and tried to use simple words, in order not to complicate. All the time, I must repeat once or twice, when speaking to Brazilian people, specially when I was on the phone. Anyway, it seems to me that Portuguese people and Brazilian people are very similar, and that makes easier to communicate!
