Great friends,
Africa Matters! This is the 21st Century paradigm and, it was wonderful meeting all of you and exchanging business cards and email addresses at the just concluded National Summit on Africa. The work must continue beyond the Washington Convention Center. We are inviting you to be a part of history by joining a great discussion team in preparation for the First African Continental/Global Youth Assembly under the auspices of the Twenty-first Century African Youth Movement and collaborating organizations. The gathering will take place in Freetown, the capital city of Sierra Leone from Monday, May 21, through Saturday, May 26, 2001.
At this conference, young people from all over Africa and the African Diaspora will come together to celebrate and to honor PEACE (Participation Ensures Advancement and Concerns Everyone) They will also be mapping out strategies for African and African Diaspora youth collaboration. The theme of the conference will be:
African Youth 2000:
BUILDING A MORAL AND SPIRITUAL FRONTIER THROUGH TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCEMENT AND ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT.
The conference will focus on two projects: Access To Technology and the creation of an International Youth Business Mentoring Program. These two projects will be at the core of the working groups to the Continental/Global African Youth Assembly.
You are receiving this e-mail because you are an African, a descendant of Africa or, a friend of Africa. In whatever capacity, your input is valuable to us. You may also have a lot of ideas to contribute to the success of this movement and to the Assembly. Please feel free to be a part of this discussion group. Two thousand years of history is at an end. We as a people must come to terms with the end of the second millennium and define our needs for the third. Let us give our time and support to the youth of Africa. Let us understand that the adults of today's generation were the youth of yesterday – the youth that fought to get us where we are today. Let us understand that poverty is a disease that can destroy our people in this age of greed and avarice (selfishness). We believe that those of us who will come forward and make this vision a reality are on our way to fulfilling the many challenges and responsibilities that our ancestors are calling upon us to undertake.
The mission of the Twenty-first Century African Youth Movement is to inspire the youth of Africa and its Diaspora to establish a firm spiritual, cultural, social, political and economic link.
