G-L Community:
I could not resist the excitement generated by this topic. So here is
another "old-timer's" tale. I came to the US in 1974, on a flight from
Dakar to New York. On that flight was Sasi, now Dr. Ndure and
Alhaji(AZZ) Jagne. AZZ went to Connecticut and Sasi and I went to
Greeley and Denver, respectively, in Colorado. To my knowledge, I was
the only Gambian in Denver for over four years. Momodou Sarjo Jallow,
now a minister in Jammeh's cabinet, was in Trinidad, Colorado and I met
him in late 1978. By 1982, we grew up to four people. Today the
Gambian Community in Denver has grown to over twenty and include the
likes of Dr. Bakary Sonko, Alhaji Jeng and Banna Touray.

I remember the likes of Musa Cham, Abdoulie Njai of Atlanta, Saul Njie
of Kansas and now in Gambia. In fact, I met two old-timers in D.C., this
past weekend. Sohna Sallah(1968), Dr. Saba Jallow of Sambang and Mamadou
Jallow of Basse, whom I had not seen in over 30 years. There is another
Momodou Jallow, who may still live in New York and use to work for
VHF(telephone services) and Sajo Cammara who came in the early 70s. I
can go on.

Jabou, Sidi, Ebrima, Prince and other students of history this is good
documentation. It is a wealth of information on the "first wave" of
Gambians to the US. It would be fun to also document, the second, third
and fourth waves. Thanks for the memories!
