Thanks to all for some history on Gambian pioneers (Pilgrims?) to the new
world. Knowing about them is some inspiration for us the new immigrants.
Interestingly some of these fellows unknowingly served as inspiration to
many young Gambians then. I could remember being involved in many "Ataya
vous" talk about Gambians with Ph.D. in mid 1970s. I remembered names like
Sulayman Nyang, Sedat Jobe, one Seedy Jammeh (not sure whether its the same
as Sidi Sanneh). Well those conversations were really the start of many
dreams for some of us. I could remember trying really hard to imagine what
it was like to get a Ph.D. Of course coming from the village and a pioneer
in my own right, I could never imagine how. I have never seen one then!
Unfortunately I did not meet most of these fine peole, who, without their
knowledge were really role models. In 1998 though I was privileged to meet
Dr. Sulayman Nyang. To me the meeting was a childhood dream come true!
To all the pioneers out there we thank you all. You have been great
inspiration. I hope Ebrima Ceesay would take advantage of this opportunity
to get the Directory of Gambians started.
Jabou, I must say that I like the new dish (Domoda with Curry) invented in
D.C. I think we should include it in the GESO cookbook. Such rare inventions
should be treasured!
