BOY, 22, SUES THE STATE FOR TORTURE AND INJURIES
A 22-year-old boy, Fa Janko Sawo, has sued the State for wrongful arrest, battery, injuries and detention.
When contacted Hawa Cessay-Sabally, the lawyer representing Fa Janko Sawo, confirmed that the boy was on Monday 10 April after being suspected to be student, asked to disembark from a mini van he was travelling in near Westfield junction, allegedly beaten by soldiers and then taken to Serekunda police station. She confirmed that Sawo is suing the State through a constable by the name Lamin Touray, the Inspector General of Police, the Commander Gambia National Army and the Attorney General. Mrs. Sabally further confirmed that Sawo was claiming damages to the tune of D350,000 for unlawful arrest and detention, assault and battery and injuries suffered mostly in the head. Mrs. Sabally also confirmed that the case has been filed two weeks ago at the High Court in Banjul.
