According to the griots, when the first European landed some where around
Banjulo, he asked where he was and one old man said "Fakambia," meaning
Fakabi's place.

Brothers, and sisters, this was oral history. Banjul was named after a
"Banjulo" tree around the River Gambia.

Comrade,

Muhammad Lamine Jassey-Conteh
