Gambia-L:

Again, I am sending the e-mail below unedited. It came from one of my
sources in the Gambia.

My source: I can tell you that Yahya is not fleeing anywhere. Not now
anyway. He may be removing his things from Kanilai, but I wouldn't put or
read much into that. Anyway, I'll find time soon and do some interpretative
reporting on the current Gambian situation.

Regards,
Ebrima

>Ebrima,
>I have made remarks concerning the recent behaviour of Yahya Jammeh, all
>pointing to what appear to be a stand-by arrangement in the case of any
>eventuality. I am not sure whether it has enything to do with recent
>people's power demonstrated in Yuguslavia and Ivory Coast or is it due to
>reasons known only to him. Which ever way, Yahya has been behaving
>strangely lately. He has been seen moving stuff; suite cases, crates from
>both his Kanilai residence and state House in the dead of night. There has
>also been unusual movements at the airport. If these movements occured
>last year or even in the early part of this year, they could have been
>attributed to his drug activities, counterfeiting and other illegal
>activities. But according to my contacts at various arms of Governments,
>these movements are related to contingency plans should he decide to
>abandon ship. As reported earlier, he made it very clear to his Cabinet
>Secretaries that he has a place to go in case he is chased out by the
>people. His tour of the provinces has confirmed his worst fears that
>indeed the Gambians are fed up with him, his corrupt ways and those of his
>Government. Infact, those former supporters who decided to call it a day
>did not hesitate to cite Jammeh's corruptness as the reason for
>disassociating themselves from the APRC and Jammeh himself. His Ukranian
>pilots are on stand-by to fly him out at a moments notice. Infact, I was
>informed that the pilots have now moved permanently to Dakar. For security
>reasons, he does not want them to live in Banjul. Unusual movements have
>also been reported at the Atlantic Hotel which, as you will recall, has
>been "given away" to some Lybian "investures" who are more interested in
>security matters than attracting tourist to their delapidated and deserted
>hotel. We, in the opposition, should not he caught unawares. I therefore
>call on the Movement for the Restoration of Democracy in The Gambia and all
>those Gambians living abroad to start working out a strategy including
>filing charges against the monster for murder of defenseless students,
>turture and other human rights violations. Those lawyers amongst you
>should start thinking along these lines. I believe there are legal
>organisations and individual lawyers in New York and the UK who specialist
>in monsters like Yahya Jammeh.
>Ebrima, please allow me to express appreciation to Sigga Jagne, a wonderful
>lady, for the kind words she said of those of us on the ground. The credit
>should go to all of you for the personal dedication and sacrifice for a
>free and democratic Gambia. A Yahyaless Gambia will soon be a reality by
>the Grace of God and the determination of the Gambian people.
