saul,
because i hold you in high esteem and look up to you [as i did to baba once], i will respond to this hiccup. as to the mail to kujabi, yes they are the words i use to everyone who call or raise concern about what was up to. see, saul you are one of the smartest and honest gambians i've come across but on this one you won't see it cos [and this is to paraphrase an obscure satirist who taught on deconstruction as a literary tool] when a good satirist satires, legally none can find them culpable of anything. guess what they are attacking an individual but generalising with such sublety that they are the only ones who can tell who they refer. but, aha, those who have been there and done that can figure it out. baba is perhaps the most gifted young gambian writer around. but he has his shortcomings: by his admission, he is petty and doesn't easily forgive. baba has never forgiven me for questioning an editorial his paper wrote way back in 2000. i know baba well enough to tell you t!
hat he is no quitter; and when h
e announces he is quitting upon being found out, believe me he knows what i said is true. of course he will deny it, and as my satirist tutor would point out, none can legally find him culpable of anything. because - guess what? - he was referring to everyone and none.
as it is, i'm trying to come up with an appropriate response to the pdois statement; i just saw your message and feel compelled to reply to you. other than that, i would keep saying to what i say to everyone in private: baba is referring to none other than myself and else and going by what he keeps throwing at me, this is simply beyond him as a brother. now, i could have come after baba in public. i grant i'm no match when it comes to writing a satire; but by god i could be muddying this place with un-necessary polemic that is best devoted to the enemy. so i will resort to saying in private what i intimated to kujabi. had you called me recently, i would have lodged a complaint and sought advice, since on the face of it you are mates.
saul, as i said to ron ealier last week, gambia-l is not a laundrette to launder the dirty linen of mates. i will not go down that drain. let baba continue to have his laughs at afang kangtei, when fate has it and we see again, i will tell him publicly my anguish and disappointment in his lampooning of a junior who used to hold in high esteem.
saul, brother i thank you for your intervention.
wishing you all the best,
hamjatta kanteh
