Hello fellow Gambia L'ers,
Today I am very proud to announce the completion of a
website, http://www.mygambia.org, that has been in the
works for months now, dedicated to helping the April
10 and 11 shooting victims. It took a lot of work,
dedication, energy and time. But it is finally ready.
The website is sponsored by myself and Mr. Yankuba
Njie. It is a highly informative site featuring
pictures of three of the victims; the ones I featured
in a piece to the "L" a couple of months ago entitled
"Suffering in Silence." It shows detailed pictures of
their injuries as well as their medical reports from
both their doctors in the Gambia and their former
Egyptian doctor. It also includes detailed
explanations of the injuries they sustained and the
poor state of their health.
The site’s primary goal is to obtain medical
treatment, outside the Gambia, for these young
victims.
A letter with attached links to
http://www.mygambia.org will be sent in the next
couple of days to charities, medical associations and
groups such as the medical charity group " Doctors
without frontiers". We have also opened a bank
account, "Help for Injured Gambian Students" at the
Commonwealth Credit Union in Kentucky USA, to solicit
monetary and other donations from individuals and
groups, to cover expenses such as air tickets and
transportation costs for the victims.
Donations can be made on the site via:
(1) Your E-mail through the Paypal service
(http://www.paypal.com/). Paypal enables anyone with
an email address (even if they don’t have a Paypal
account) to send money using a Check or Credit card
via the Internet, to other individuals or groups. By
using this method, you might earn a $5.00 referral
bonus for the "Help for Gambian Students" account, and
also for yourself provided you meet certain
requirements from Paypal (for more information about
the requirements, please visit
http://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=p/gen/referral-faq-outside).
SO PLEASE USE THIS METHOD, IF POSSIBLE, TO HELP OBTAIN
EVEN MORE DONATIONS FOR THE VICTIMS, FROM PayPal.
(2) Electronic Money Transfer
(3) A Credit card
(4) Or by Check or Money order via postal mail.
MyGambia.org doesn’t store or collect any credit card
or checking account information from donors. All
monetary transactions are directly handled by Paypal
and they have many security measures to help ensure
your absolute protection. For more information, please
review Paypal’s Security Policy at
http://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=p/gen/security-outside
The site also features a monthly Newsletter featuring
the victims' health progress and other related
information featured on the site. The Newsletter will
also show the amount of money donated, the names of
the donors, and detailed explanations of any
expenditure and our monthly Bank statements.
You can subscribe to this monthly Newsletter on any
page at the http://www.mygambia.org site, and can also
access each monthly issue online at the site at
http://www.mygambia.org/newsletter.html.
We welcome all your comments, feedback, and questions.
You can contact us via the site as well as post
messages of support for the victims, in our "Leave
your comments" section at
http://www.mygambia.org/comments.html (we will then
forward these messages to the victims).
Most of your questions can also be answered by
referring to our "Frequently Asked Questions" section
at http://www.mygambia.org/faq.html .
The www.mygambia.org site also has a "Tell a friend"
feature at http://www.mygambia.org/tellafriend.html,
which is a "referral form" that can be utilized to
send an e-mail message about the plight of these young
men, to friends, family members, as well as any
physicians, medical groups, or charities that you
think might be able to provide financial and/or
medical assistance.
IF ANYONE KNOWS ANY OTHER VICTIMS WHO NEED HELP,
PLEASE CONTACT US THROUGH OUR WEBSITE.
AND PLEASE VISIT THE SITE, REFER YOUR FRIENDS AND
FAMILY MEMBERS, PHYSICIANS, CHARITY GROUPS, MEDICAL
ASSOCIATIONS, AND MAKE A DONATION, NO MATTER HOW
SMALL. BECAUSE TOGETHER, WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN
THE LIVES OF THESE YOUNG VICTIMS. THEY ARE OUR OWN,
SO LET US NOT ABANDON THEM IN THIS THEIR HOUR OF NEED.
For those on the "L" with websites, please provide a
link to our site, on your website. See how to do so
at, http://www.mygambia.org/link.html
