Sanusi,
I concur with you that a civil service and salaries review commissions are
long overdue. It would have helped avoid the so many unfortunate firings
going on.
Unfortunately I don't know much about the circumstances surrounding the
dismissal of all these civil servants. I would like to think that these
dismissals are not politically motivated as the president himself told Mrs.
Juka Jabang of MDI, that contrary to rumours going around town that her
dismissal was eminent, he wanted her and all civl servants to rest assured
that nobody in his government will be fired for his/her political views. He
also re-iterated that he will not tolerate anybody denying their service to
the public for political reasons as they are employed paid from taxpayer's
monies. He also said that whilst he does not mind civil servants opposing
the APRC party, he will not tolerate any civil servant opposing the
government. The government and the party were two different entities and as
such anybody who do not want to implement government policies should either
resign or be fired, he said. This is all I know about the matter.
