Thanks Joe & Ghanim for showing that you are also concerned with what could
be a very devastating year for our poor farmers and the whole country. I
particularly want to thank you, Joe, for the piece on the ongoing religious
debate. Unfortunately here in The Gambia we now have a band of mullahs who
are trying to tell us that the way that we, our parents and forebearers have
been worshiping God and living had been wrong all along. This new way of
reaching out to people to turn to God sometimes really bothers me. I know
for a fact that there is pre-destination and as a result the ultimate judge,
God The Almighty, will have the final say. It pains me a lot that while
others are debating these issue with all the zeal, our country is on the
verge of a major disaster and it does not seem to matter to them.

Coming back to the useasonal rains, it has now subsided, at least for the
past two hours. It has also not yet reached the URD in a big way as it has
been here. I am told that there are some isolated drizzles here and there
but not heavy ones. The unseasonal rains have also been reported in various
parts of Senegal. Meanwhile, the temperature throughout the country seems to
dropping lower and lower. I hope we've seen the worst of it.
