Court Orders IGP to Discontinue Eviction Orders of 20 Appellants
Case Adjourned to 17 Jan 06

The Gambia High Court has ordered the Inspector General of Police to stop
forthwith the eviction orders from the Paul Commission directed against 20
former senior state personnel.
The Court Order was issued on Friday, 23 December 2005, following an
appeal against the eviction order by the appellants.
The IGP was also ordered to restore forthwith any of the appellants who
have been evicted from their properties or whose tenants have been so
evicted in disobedience of a previous Court Order.
In passing the Court Order, Hon. Justice N.A. Izuako said:
“I view of the application before the Court and in view of the fact that
learned counsel for the respondent needs time to find out the true state
of affairs and to respond adequately, the Court is constrained to
adjourned this matter but before I adjourn to have a proper response from
the respondent, I shall make the following orders which are directed at
the Inspector-General of Police:
“The Inspector-General of Police Ousman Sonko is hereby ordered to stop
forthwith any executions arising from the Adverse Recommendations of the
Paul Commission in the following cases.
“The Inspector General of Police Ousman Sonko shall restore forthwith any
of the named twenty Applicants who have been evicted from their properties
or whose tenants have been so evicted on disobedience of the orders of
14th July 2005 made by this Court. This matter is hereby adjourned to
January 17th 2006 for hearing of the committal applications.”
The appellants are as follows:

Junkung Bayo, former General Manager of the Central Bank, Tamsir Jasseh,
former Director General of Immigrations, Malick Cham, former Managing
Director of Gambia Civil Aviation, Habib Drammeh, former Director of
Gambia Tourism Authority, Abdoulie B Cham, former employee of Central
Bank, Foday Barry, former officer of the NIA, Momodou Clark Bajo, former
Governor at the Central Bank, Mustapha Leigh, former Director of Technical
Service, Abdoulie Kujabi, former Director of the NIA, Ebou Njie, former
IGP, Karamo Bojang, Gambia’s Ambassador  to Belgium and the EU, Pap
Cheyassin Secka, former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Mustapha
James Kujabi, former, Deputy Chief of Protocol, Ousman Sowe, former
employee of the Central Bank, Edrissa Touray, former Customs Officer,
Abdoulie Conteh, former Mayor of KMC, Amadou M Jallow, former Finance
Controller of KMC, Lawrence Bruce, former Project Manager at the Education
Department, Abdul Fattah Othman, former Clerk of BCC and Yankuba Touray,
Secretary of State for Agriculture.
