 United Democratic Party/National reconciliation Party (UDP/NRP) Alliance New York Statement on the successful nomination of Lawyer Ousainou Darboe as a candidate for the September 22nd, 2006 Presidential election.

  Ladies and gentlemen:
                                        We would like to join the National Executive Committee of the UDP/NRP Alliance in thanking everyone for the great support that the Alliance received from you to make the August 28, 2006 nomination day a success. Lawyer Ousainou Darboe has been official nominated according to The Gambia ELECTIONS DECREE 1996 DECREE NO. 78.

  SECTION 42.  subsection (2) A candidate for election to the office of schedule (a) President shall be nominated in the prescribed Form 1 of part A of schedule IV by not less than five thousand votes whose names appear in the register of voters, with at least two hundred voters being drawn from each Administrative Area;

  SECTION (43) subsection (1) A candidate shall, at the time he delivers his nomination paper to the Returning Officer for election to the Office of
   (a) President, deposit with the Returning Officer, the sum of ten thousand dalasis.

  The nomination went successfully with several thousands of people who came from all parts of the country to witness his nomination. They ended up with a big rally at Latri Kunda Yeri nya.

  We must confess Mr. Darboe has never received such a huge crowd in the past in all his previous Presidential nominations. The majority of Gambians, who over the 12 years have painfully learnt the bitter significance of the cruel Jammeh’s regime have started speaking out and we expect President Jammeh to listen carefully. They are totally opposed to the foul political game, mismanagement of the Gambia economic, the continuous violation of the constitution by the unlawful arrest, detention and torture of innocent Gambians.

  Gambians are saying enough is enough, no more thuggery, no more harassment, and no more killings of our love Gambian soldiers. This regime has a lot under the carpet and is the antithesis of peace and stability. The propaganda machinery of this government is to chant peace and stability aloud while it is committed to chaos and brutality.

  There are many questions for President Jammeh that needs to be answer and that is about the missing millions:

  -D350 Million from Nigeria crude oil-aid to The Gambia;
  -D224 million missing at the Central Bank;
  -D2 Million stolen by the present Secretary of state for Agriculture Yankuba Touray;
  -D27 Million embezzled by the (APRC) cohorts and Yai Compins under the pretext of Youth Development Enterprise (YDE) which should have been used to purchase the poor farmers groundnuts.

  Ladies and Gentlemen: this election is about the future of The Gambia and about change. UDP/ NRP Alliance are ready to bring the change and bring a bright future for the nation. The Alliance believe that the time has come for Gambians to take charge once again of its economic future, reverse 12 years of “Voodoo Economics,” fiscal irresponsibility, and economic violence against the poor working people that have converted this proud country which used to be called “a regional Super market” into the world’s largest debtor nation, mortgaged our children future by tripling our national debt.

  Finally, UDP/NRP Alliance will not tolerate any intimidation or electoral fraud from the (APRC). With a free and fair level plying ground, we are optimistic; Lawyer Darboe would win Jammeh with a large margin.

  Down with the (APRC) corrupt Government
  Down with Jammeh’s dictatorship
  Long live The Gambia
  Long live UDP/NRP Alliance
