TEETH BITE:Who okayed OJ'S US visit? Is Nadd really interested in winning the by elections???
The much talked about Kombo East by election is around the corner. In few days time Gambians will go to the polls once again to elect a National Assembly Member. It is sad that our divided opposition are once again opposing one another. NADD has named its own candidate, like wise the NRP/UDP alliance. This by election is crucial to our nation’s fragile democracy. It will determine the popularity of the parties on the ground and what the future holds for our disintegrated opposition.

WHO OKAYED OJ'S US VISIT? IS NADD REALLY
INTERESTED TO WIN THE COMING BY ELECTIONS?
We do not want to give report cards to parties at this hour, but what is clear though is that the NADD leadership seems to be giving more attention to fund raising than wining the votes in Kombo East. Funds are very important, but getting the support of the electorates is equally imperative if the party want to register a success story in their quest to effect political change in The Gambia.
We still cannot understand what is the popular politician Omar Amadou Jallow is doing here at this time of the hour. The timing of his US visit is very wrong. He is needed more by his colleagues on the ground. We all know that OJ is a charismatic politician, whose voice could go a long way in attracting voters in other camps. Halifa, Waa, Sedia and Sam alone cannot do the work. It should be collective responsibility. He should be at that hot sun to talk to the people of Kombo East as to why NADD should be voted into the National Assembly. This piece is not malicious at all. We Gambians should do away with this culture of double standards. OJ should be told by his host to go back home and join his colleagues in the struggle. We doubt the commitment of our so called politicians.
It is totally unfair for OJ to jump the ship of NADD at this hour to be in the US just to raise funds for NADD. NADD needs him badly at this hour. Whether his visit is private or official, that is not important at this very hour. While the NRP/UDP leadership are on the ground, OJ is here criss crossing the country. If NADD thinks that this elections are not important they must be making a big mistake. As far as we are concerned, the Kombo East by election is equally important like that of the Presidential elections. We still cannot understand why NADD okayed OJ’s trip to the US. OJ should not be free to do things on its own since he made a pledge to his supporters that he will never betray the struggle. His visit should have been deferred until after the by elections.
This is not the time for idle. The opposition have long been playing games with Gambians. You either engage Jammeh or you quit politics. OJ should cut his US visit short and return home to help Halifa and Co. During elections time opposition leaders should remain at home. Our people need the likes of OJ on the ground. Some observers are even apprehensive about the claims that these people truly wanted to unseat Jammeh. You do not abandon the front line when the war is tough. OJ is a font line commander and his action will no doubt live to haunt NADD in the coming by election.
NADD supporters should read this piece with an open mind. The opposition should accommodate critical views point geared towards exposing their weaknesses and shortcomings. You can only improve if you are ready to heed to positive suggestions and recommendations. NADD should prioritize its programs if it wants to be taken seriously. Private and official visits should be planned well ahead of time. This is not the time for private and official visits.
The folks at Minnesota and other states across the United States have been doing fine job by raising funds for NADD. Brother Chei, Dalton, Christine, you name them had been working day and night to help the NADD leadership with funds. There are enough people on the ground who can take care of NADD business here. NADD officials should be out there to manage the funds and not to come here be treated as celebrities.
We heard about the Kent Turkey OJ visits and other states on his schedules. There is too much talk with little action. What we need now is action and not mere political propaganda statements. OJ should go back home in the interest of winning that seat for his party. Anything short of this, is unacceptable to his supporters back home. He stands to be accused of denying NADD victory if the election is not in their favour. NADD needs your company at this hour.
