RESEARCH ASSOCIATE

Montgomery county council and its office of legislative oversight 

Rockville, Maryland

 

Staff for the Montgomery County Council and its Office of Legislative
Oversight (OLO) conduct policy and budget analyses, program evaluations,
and related research projects requested by the nine-member Council. We
are currently recruiting for Research Associates to join our outstanding
team of analysts. The Research Associate position offers an excellent
opportunity to work on key legislative, land use, budget, and other
policy issues that face the legislative branch of a highly regarded
large local government. One of the Research Associates will be working
primarily on education-related budget issues.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

*        Graduation from an accredited college or university with a
bachelor's degree. An equivalent combination of education and experience
may be substituted.

*        Familiarity with the structure of local government and the
ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of governmental laws, regulations,
and practices.

*        Knowledge of research techniques, experience in completing
quantitative and qualitative analysis, and ability to compile and
organize large amounts of information.  Familiarity with spreadsheet and
database applications, such as EXCEL and ACCESS.

*        Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

*        Ability to deal tactfully with different types of people.

 

Terms of Employment

Full-time (40 hours/week) for a one-year term, starting in January 2007.
The position includes the full package of County Government employee
benefits, including health, retirement, sick leave, and vacation.
Extension beyond the one-year term and promotion to a career position
are possible.

The salary range is $34,465 to $56,585. Starting salary depends on
background and experience and is ordinarily near the beginning of the
range.
