I confess you are entitled to your opinion but i guess you cannot speak for
us women. If you tell me that FGM has advantages, I will ask you to
enumerate them. Unless you are able to put in a list the advantages and the
disadvantages, then your argument is vain.
Assuming you are right that it has advantages, the only one you know is that
it controls 'the libido'. May I ask you, if men are unable to control theirs
how can the woman escape any STD or HIV/AIDS? Would depriving the woman's
sexual pleasure be convenient for the man who indulges himself in
extramarital sex more often than the woman EVEN IN AREAS WHERE WOMEN ARE NOT
MUTILATED? I believe self restrain applies to everybody be it men or women.
In fact, IN ALL CIRCUMSTANCES, women are able to control their sexual urges
much more better than men. Isnt that why prostitution is a lucrative job for
those who desire to indulge in it? Who goes out to look for sex?
Unfortunately the woman being mutilitated is never asked her opinion in such
matters.
Baba Jallow (BabaGalleh Jallow if you most know) did right in exposing such
practice in our society. I am aware of the delicacy of the process of its
eradication in a society where culture and traditions still shuns the
'BILAKORO'.

Please, before we advance any opinions on matters pertaining to sensitive
issues like this (cultural practices, religious beliefs etc), we should have
taken time to read books written by different authors (opposing and
favouring) so that we can come up with sensible arguments. I admit some of
us have the easy access to computers and the internet and can advance any
gabbage without prior knowledge.
