1. Name a Town or village in Guinea that is within 10 miles of the source
of River Gambia? $10
Ore' Dima, Labe', Satina, or Gouba.
2. Name four (4) towns or villages in Gambia that are within 5 miles of a
tributary of River Gambia $20.00
Bourghibe-$5.00.
Yankuba-Sami Wharf town (just off Sandugu Bolong), Sare Sofi (also on
Sandugu Bolong),
The village of Bintang ( overlooking Bintang Bolong) and the town of Bwiam.
- $15.00
Yankuba, I think Sare Sofi is more than 5 miles from the tributary. Check it
out. You win for effort anyway. Some of the other towns could be: Basse Santa
Su, Banenko Simaila, Limbambulu, Sutukoba, Leba Mali Mbye, Buduk, Tuba
Mamadi, Busura, Khayell Bassell, Dasilami, Mundong, Chakunda, etc. almost
ad-infinitum.
3. Name 2 Towns or villages in Senegal that are within 5 miles of the
River
Gambia. $30.00.
Yankuba-Velingara and Bignona - $15.00
Yankuba, I don't have Velingara and Bignona on my list. Remember its River
Gambia, not a tributary or another river in Senegal. I'll do some more
checking. Meanwhile you win $15.00 for FJ for effort. Some towns and villages I have
are Kouroumbambe, Kirili, Makabing, Madina Pate', Koular, Darou Salam,
Bambadala, Simenti, Bahare', Babel, Soukouta, etc. etc. almost ad-infinitum.
4. Name docks/wharves that are in current use at the Gambia Port in
Banjul? $10.00
Bourghibe-$5.00
Yankuba-Banjul Wharf - 120 meters long, 17 meters wide. It has both outer
and inner berths for anchorage
Banjul Jetty - this was a 123 long dock but it is now been extended to 177
meters. It also has both inner and outer berths for heavy and light vessels =
2 The answer therefore, is 4 docks are currently in use. - $10.00
The Banjul Port was also a recipient of a new container terminal at the
Jetty which is 300 m long, The Lady Njameh lost a propeller at sea and has been
inoperable since. I wonder if they found the propeller????? Very funny. Is the
Tesito tugboat out of commission? The Juffureh? I have some more questions
on the port for future quizzes.
5. Name the Roads and the construction company that built them in Gambia
since independence. $20.00
Bourghibe-Wimpey-Brikama-to-Mansakonko $5.00
Yankuba-C.S.E. (Compagnie Sahé–˜ienne d'Entreprises ). They built the
Mandinaba-Silite road in 1983-84, Kombo Coastal road, Soma-Basse road, One in
Badibou, the road from Kairaba Avenue via Kanifing to Radio Gambia end, Westfield to
Abuko and from Brikama to Gunjur. So, they built 7 roads. $15.00
This question is now closed. Another company is Ballast Nedam a contractor
of EU for the Barra-Hamdalaye, Trans-Gambia Highway resurfacing, Soma-Basse,
Basse-Sabi-Wellingara, and the mandinaba-seleti. Mostly resurfacing and feeder
roads. The kuwaiti firm MA Kharafe and Sons. However they are mainly
involved in resurfacing and renovation of the Farafenni-Laminkoto road, the
Kerewan-Farafenni road, the Mandinaba-Soma road, and the taxiway at the Airport.
Besides roadwork, MAK has purchased the Kairaba Beach Hotel in 2004, developed
Brufut Heights Hotel Resort, and invested in a vegetable farm and processing
center at Kafuta.
6. From 1994 to now, list the SOSs who have been removed, give the official
reason for their removal, and whether they have been brought before the
courts to answer to any charges of wrongdoing. Where there is no official
reason offered, please indicate thusly. Include all SOSs who have been
re-appointed after termination. $100.00
No answer forwarded for this question. I want all of us to work on this. The
independent, The Point and Foroyaa archives will be good sources for
this.Call your journalist friends or APRC archivists. There is value to this
exercise.
7. Dispensed with. honorary doctorate accorded Ajaratou Isatou Njie Saidy
VP, by Univ. of Gambia.
Bourghibe - $5.00 earned. Question off the roll.
(8) How long was Hon. Duta Kamaso imprisoned for?
Yankuba-She was detained for six months. You win $0.00
Duta Kamaso was arrested and detained June 2nd, 2006. She was released Oct
9th, 2006. She was imprisoned for 4 months and 7 days.
(9) How long was Mariam Denton imprisoned for?
Yankuba-3 months. You win $0.00 Accuracy is extremely important in these two
questions.
Mariam Denton was arrested April 6th, 2006. She was released July 25th,
2006. She was imprisoned for 3 months 19 days.
10. Does Gambia have any water treatment plant, where are they located, and
what is their capacity in Million Gallons per Day?
Bourghibe-$5.00 This question still available for answer. No monetary value
assigned however.
This question will remain open just as question #6 until someone comes up
with the accurate answers. Suffice it to say that Gambia does not have much of
water treatment plant. A series of boreholes and pumping untreated aquifer
water is more like it. Even though the ground does much of the filtration for
groundwater, there are still inorganics and hardnesses that ought to be
considered. Its a good thing friggin MRC is around the corner for bowel movements.
There are NGo efforts to bring potable water to rural communities from
boreholes and solar power. Banjul and Serrekunda are screwed for APRC's tenure.
Tally: Bourghibe - $20.00 Yankuba - $55.00
Thank you gentlemen. FJManneh will be pleased and she will acknowledge your
gifts.
