experienced in international public health to fill the positions of
Epidemiologist for the Trachoma Control Program (TCP) and
Epidemiologist for the Global 2000 River Blindness Program (GRBP).
The Epidemiologists will provide technical support to field programs by
promoting standardization and sharing of information pertaining to
program design and evaluation; assisting in training and surveillance
activities; writing study and treatment protocols and assisting in the
preparation of national and regional planning documents. Other duties
include, preparing oral and written reports, presenting scientific
papers and presentations, and playing a major role in the development
and publication of program newsletters and other materials. Also, this
position is responsible for identifying potential financial, technical
and material support for the program (including additional support for
national programs) and preparing grant applications to potential donors.
The Program Epidemiologists (PE) are required to have a doctoral degree
in a medical field (MD, PhD, DVM, DDS) and a public health degree. The
PE must have at least four years of experience as a practicing public
health epidemiologist, at least two of which have been in international
programs, preferably in Africa. The PE must have good communication and
personnel management skills, and have a working knowledge of the French
language. While not a requirement, experience as a CDC Epidemic
Intelligence Service officer would be a distinct advantage. Experience
with prevention of blindness activities is a plus. Extensive travel to
program countries to help supervise and manage field operations will be
required.
Director of the Global Development Initiative
The Carter Center, an action-oriented, interdisciplinary,
nongovernmental organization chaired by former US President Jimmy
Carter, seeks an individual with recognized expertise and substantial
experience in participatory development and economic policy reform in
developing countries, to be the Director of the CenterĘs Global
Development Initiative.
The Director of the Global Development Initiative plans, directs and
coordinates the daily activities of the program which include
facilitating the participatory formulation of development strategies in
program countries. The Director is responsible for the financial
management of program budgets and grants; staff performance and
development; and, working with the CenterĘs development office, raising
funds for specific projects and program support. The Director of the
Global Development Initiative, with the directors of other Center
programs, serves as a senior advisor to President Carter in areas of the
programĘs responsibility, and in other areas as requested. The Carter

The director must be a recognized expert in international development
with proven skills in the application of policy reform initiatives.
Ph.D. in a relevant field is strongly desired, or at least ten years of
on-the-ground, including foreign country, working experience in the
field of international development. The person must have proven
managerial and supervisory skills, including the ability to oversee
several projects simultaneously. Experience in a wide variety of
organizational settings (e.g. World Bank, U.N., bilateral donor agency,
NGO, independent consulting, academia) is strongly desired, as are
language skills.
SENIOR ACCOUNTANT
Performs routine and complex accounting activities requiring knowledge
of
systems, independent judgment and ability to respond accordingly.
Oversees activity on various accounts. Analyzes past and current data
and prepares expense projections and operational forecasts. Assists with
audits. Designs and generates routine ad hoc reports and graphs. May
maintain grants and assist with budgets. Coordinates computer
operations. Conceptualizes projects and follows through. May provide
direction to less experienced staff concerning accounting issues.
Performs related responsibilities as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A bachelor's degree in accounting or a related
field. Three years of professional accounting experience.Experience with
Microsoft Office and/or Great Plains Dynamics is preferred.
DIRECTOR of INSTITUTIONAL DEVELOPMENT
The Director of Institutional Development is responsible for the total
fundraising needs of The Carter Center. This includes planning,
implementing, and managing all fundraising activities for programs and
operations within the center and raising funds through private donations
from individuals, foundations, corporations, U.S and other governments
and international organizations. This currently totals approximately $30
million with $14 million for health programs, $8 million for peace
programs, $6 million through direct mail and annual donations from
individualsĘ totaling $2 million.
Candidates must have at least a bachelor's degree and 10 years of
experience in fundraising/development and prior experience raising funds
from private donations from individuals, foundations, corporations, U.S
and other governments and international organizations.
CHIEF DEVELOPMENT OFFICER, HEALTH
The Chief Development Officers must be well-versed in the dynamics of
health program- and project-related fund raising.
Reporting to the Director of Institutional Development, the Chief
Development Officer plans, directs and coordinates fundraising and
contributes to strategic planning efforts totaling $14 million for
health programs. Responsibilities include prospect identification,
cultivation,
solicitation and stewardship. Individual must travel extensively to
meet with donors, which include development assistance agencies (foreign
and U.S.), foundations, corporations, individuals, and U.S. and other
governments and international organizations.
Candidates must have at least a bachelor's degree and 10 years of
experience in fundraising/development and prior experience raising funds
from private donations from individuals, foundations, corporations, U.S
and other governments and international organizations. STRONG
INTERNATIONAL FUNDRAISING EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.
SENIOR ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR, DIRECT MAIL
The Senior Associate Director for Direct Mail is responsible for
conceptualizing, planning implementing and coordinating the $6 million
direct mail fundraising activities of the Development Department. This
is a position of leadership, requiring the ability to mount effective
direct mail programs.
Candidates must have a Bachelor's degree and five years experience
managing a direct mail program for a non-profit institution or similar
organization. Copywriting experience and experience with Microsoft
Office and Raiser's Edge, donor database management systems, is a plus.

professionals for overseas positions in Mali, Mozambique and Albania
with its Global Development Initiative. These unique positions combine
the roles and responsibilities of a policy advisor with a field
representative for a highly-challenging and exciting professional
opportunity. The Senior Advisors will advise and support government and
civil society leaders to formulate long-term national development
strategies in each country through an inclusive and participatory
process. Senior Advisors will be responsible for maintaining
professional networks with representatives from the government,
political parties, the private sector, civil society organizations and
the international diplomatic and donor community. All three positions
require extensive field experience at a management level, a broad
background in development policy that encompasses economic, political
and social issues, and excellent political and facilitation skills.

PROGRAM ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT, CONFLICT RESOLUTION
The Program Assistant is responsible for assisting in the administration
and support of the Conflict Resolution program, ensuring appropriate
compliance with policies and procedures. Distributes program
informational materials. Maintains calendar for one or more managers.
