Subj: I bring you Ndokeh's editorial on former President Sir Dawda
Jawara.

On the occasion of Kairaba's launching.

Just to add that Ndokeh's editorial deals with Hon. Jawara the citizen.
After the coup relieved him of duties as President of Gambia. Sir Dawda
became our fellow citizen after Yahya became President. Therefore what
Sir Dawda did after the coup d'etat is Sir Dawda's purview. We may hope
for sobriety in his decisions then but he is not accountable to Gambian
citizens for what he does in his private life. It is unconscionable to
find Sir Dawda guilty for aversion against Gambia and Gambians in his
private demarche.

Otherwise, I acknowledge Ndokeh's anxieties and chagrins variously.

I will purchase 5 copies of the book Kairaba. As is traditional with
me, I will gift 4 of them and keep one for myself.

Allez people. Haruna.

Gambia: Editorial: Kairaba Jawara Is On The Wrong Side Of History

Editorial: Kairaba Jawara Is On The Wrong Side Of History

Saturday April 10th would witnessed the launching of a book authored by
deposed President Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara?a former statesman who is on
the wrong side of history. Kairaba Jawara departed from the much
talked about ?strong democratic ideals, tenets, and values? he
nurtured in The Gambia, and across the region, following his move to
abandon his colleagues in the struggle for the restoration of democracy
in that impoverished West African country for his own selfish
interest. He returns home under the disguised of so called amnesty?
only to compromise all the principles he stood for over the years.
Jawara the ?born again? is trying to rewrite history.
When President Jammeh initiated the idea of extending an amnesty to
former President Jawara, the average Gambia thought that this was going
to be an opportune moment for Jawara to prevail on Mr. Jammeh to
consider including his former colleagues such as Bakary Bunja Darboe,
Saikou Sabally, Sara Jangha, Alkali James Gaye, Kebba Jallow, and
other PPP exiles overseas on the list of those to be pardoned, but that
was too much for Jawara. Mr. Jawara was only concerned about his
personal interest, and that of his immediate family. He accepted Jammeh?
s invitation to return home without bothering to consult his former
colleagues.
Having faced possible foreclosure in the UK, amidst financial
uncertainty, Jawara was nearly evicted from his London Home. He could
not pay for his mortgage. Jawara?s house was later seized, and sold to
prospective buyers.
Mr. Jammeh was privy to the old man?s plight in the UK, and decided to
intervene to save Jawara from being thrown out from his repossessed
London Home. This was a commendable move on the side of Jammeh to
extend a helping hand to a suffering former head of state.
Despite all the atrocities associated with Jammeh, we believe that he
played a pivotal role in ensuring that Jawara was not placed on welfare
housing program in a former colony.
Jawara has launched all kinds of campaign in the past to disrupt the
activities of the former junta headed by Jammeh. He even asked for
Western intervention, but his repeated appeals were ignored. The West
believed that he Jawara overstayed, and was partly responsible for
Gambia?s political dilemma.
It is only in The Gambia that a former exiled head of state would be
allowed to return home without being jailed. There was probable, or
reasonable cause to prosecute Jawara for corruption, and abuse of
office, because he was found liable by the Algali Commission. But
despite all these, Jammeh decided to allocate him a monthly salary,
personal guards, and a well furnished private residence in Fajara.
We have high regards for Jawara, but it is our ardent belief that he is
on the wrong side of history. Mr. Jawara?s, attempts to rewrite history
will not save him from his betrayal schemes against his former
colleagues, peers, and admirers. You can?t have it on both ways.
Jawara has betrayed all what he stood for over the years. His previous
claims that he would not dine with army mutineers is a fat lie. Jawara
is today serving as an adviser to President Jammeh. He is part, and
parcel of the Jammeh administration. Don?t tell us about that so called
political retirement.
Mr. Jawara?s book mainly focuses on his past speeches as a First
Republican President, and his political truce with the Jammeh
administration. He owes special gratitude to Amadou Samba, Abdoulie
Kujabi, and President Jammeh for facilitating his safe return home.
Mr. Jawara?s book is being advertised on Amazon. We call on Gambians
to purchase the book for the sake of posterity. Our kids need to read
about this old man. African Heads of State need to read about this
character called Kairaba Jawara. Happy book launching to former
President Jawara. History will judge you harshly Sir. We rest our
case!
