Blair's government should take total responsibilities to compensate
these women. The British troops committed a
crime here and it should be brought to the international court's
attention as any other atrocities.

Dear friends,
AN AFRICAN LIBERATION SUPPORT CAMPAIGN NETWORK (ALISC NETWORK) SPECIAL
APPEAL

We are making this appeal on behalf of the Masai and Samburu women in
Nanyuki, eastern Kenya who have been raped by British troops stationed
there, over the past thirty years.

As part of the women's long struggle for justice the several hundred
affected women have decided to hold a demonstration in Nairobi on 8th
March
to draw attention to their government's failure both to protect them or
assist them in their quest for justice. Many of the women have suffered
physical illness and psychological trauma for up to thirty years.
Others
have had children as a result of the rapes.

ALISC Network is in direct contact with the women and also with the
community organisation IMPACT that supports them and is coordinating
the
arrangements for 8 March. We support the women's perseverance and
struggle
for justice in the face of the obvious subordination of the Kenyan
government to the British government and the indifference of the UK
British
Ministry of Defence (MoD). This is not a struggle between two equally
resourced parties.

The most immediate challenge for the women is how to get from Nanyuki
to
the capital Nairobi. Nanyuki is several hundred kilometres from
Nairobi,
and the women live in a number of remote villages which are off the
beaten
track. Under normal circumstances in order to travel to Nairobi one
must
wait at the roadside in the hope that one can get a ride to the nearest
town from a passing truck.

IMPACT and ALISC Network have discussed the best way that we can
provide
support to ensure that this important demonstration takes place and we
have
agreed to raise £200.00 to send to the women for safe transport to and
from
Nairobi. We feel that this is the very least that we can do. In
addition
ALISC Network is also planning to organise an event simultaneously with
the
Nairobi event to draw attention to the struggle for justice of the
Masai
and Samburu women.

We are therefore asking you to make a donation to the transport costs
for
the event on 8th March. No amount is too small. Please make cheques
payable to ALISC Network and send your donations to:

Thank you.
