Daily Obserer Editor-in-Chief Replaced

The recently appointed Editor of the Daily Observer, Miss Ndey Tapha Sosseh has been replaced by one Momodou Sanyang, following the inauguration of the company?s new Board of Directors.

Reports reaching The Independent revealed that she was relieved of her duties on the grounds that at the time of her appointment, the Managing Editor of the paper, Sheriff Bojang did not consult with the then Board of Directors.

According to insiders, the former board headed by Lang Conteh was virtually dysfunctional and as a result Sheriff could not consult with them to authenticate the appointment of Ndey Tapha Sosseh.

Another theory suggests that the company?s management were not the least happy with some members of the staff, who took part in the solidarity march organised by the Gambia Press Union (GPU) to vent their anger over the gruesome killing of Deyda Hydara, a professional colleague and the subsequent one-week news blackout by several independent media houses, which the management reportedly argued accumulated to several loss of revenues for the company.

As a result, the salaries of some of the affected staff were deducted including the replaced Editor-in-chief, who requested for a one-week casual leave.

Reports indicated that the action prompted the management, who were grieved over the situation to replace the then Editor-In-Chief with a substitution. But some of the insiders, who felt disgruntled over this latest development, said they were bullied into rubbish.

Though lot of hellable things were being ascribed to the issue, the new Editor, Mr. Modou Sanyang who was introduced to members of staff on Monday in a meeting held at the office, did not report work as at time.

Meanwhile, efforts to talk to former Editor-in-Chief and the Managing Editor, Sheriff Bojang, proved futile.

Ndey has been replaced. That's the story. The
circumstances surrounding her replacement is not yet clear.
But Post and L members will be informed accordingly
whenever, we received any reliable info about her abrupt
replacement.
