Fatoumata thanks for the forward. Churchil Baldeh is one of dishonest politicians in our country. He is a sycophant and this remarks for lawyers to contest for National Assembly seats is just for headline graping.Was it not Mr Churchil Baldeh who stated that we the Gambian in diaspora should not have voting rights in the next coming election? What human rights is he dreaming about?We can have the best human rights bills and laws enacted by the parliament but if  the Government continues to hinder its enforcement,it does not worth written into the statuary books.

Honourable Baldeh made this call in an exclusive interview with the Daily Observer in his office in Banjul.

He reasoned that having lawyers in the National Assembly would be good to safeguard human rights. “Good lawyers will be very good in the National Assembly, especially in the area of human rights protection and the freedom of people. I call on the country’s lawyers to break the record and come into politics in the interest of national development, considering the importance of the legislative organ in a democratic state. We really need strong people in the Assembly,” he said.
According to him, lawyers can combine both law and politics successfully.

He said: “If they choose to come into politics, they are highly welcomed. Any lawyer who has a good record and is willing to come into politics, would be very good.”
