Thank you very much. Let us hope they keep their word on both counts.
I think the people at the Observer can find ample material in the towns and
villages of The Gambia to write about if they are true journalists who are
interested in representing the views of Gambians and informing them about
happenings in our country, and which is what a newspaper in the country
should be doing. If they want to get news from abroad, there are also proper
and legal avenues to get that.
As for asking people to pay them in order to feature articles in the paper, I
am completely amazed. Is it that these people are under-paid or is ti that
this is the order of the day now? One wonders, because a journalist asking
for payment in order to write articles in their own paper defeats the purpose
of being a journalist, doesn't it?
