My dear Sister Jabou,
Thanks as always for your contributions to the burning
issues/questions of the day.
If it can be proved satisfactorily that the Iman has
breached an injunction of the Holy Quran, then in my humble
opinion,he should be relieved of his duties. When all is
said and done,He is a pillar of society and a
functionary, people look up to for the correct
interpretation of the Holy Quran. In short,He is the
Custodian of the Holy Quran in his locality.
The limit is four as stated in Surah Nisa(Chapter 4) verse
3.This is what is stated:..." And if you fear that you
shall not be able to deal justly with the orphan girls then
marry other women of your choice, two or three,or four;but
if you fear that that you shall not be able to deal
justly(with them),then only one or (slaves) that your right
hands possess. This is nearer to prevent you from doing
injustice."
I hope this helps.
The very best of Salaam,
Musa.
