Please folks, do call and ask that they rescind the invitation. Heck, if they need another speaker, I will provide one.

I have it from a friend, familiar with Mr. Robert's work in The Gambia, that his students do conduct useful research in the country. Why he chose to invite Yaya is something I would have liked him to answer but he did not return my call. We have to understand that Yaya will buy "legitimacy" any way he can and I am not saying that this is the case with SMCM, but we've been there before and Ebrima Ceesay and others set them straight. SMCM is a wonderful institution, among the top ten liberal arts colleges in the nation and located in my state - I am mighty proud of that.

Please call - it will be a travesty if this goes forward without a majority of us registering a protest with those responsible.

Soffie

I just managed to talk to the provost of St. Mary's College and bluntly told him that their invitation of Mr Jammeh is an insult to the Gambian people. I wish all of us will call him and do the same. Show your fury to the administration. call them at 240 895 2000.

Person responsible for having him over as the speaker at the commencement ceremonies and bestowing an honorary degree unto him is a Mr. Bill Roberts who, according to the info, has a 30 year relationship with The Gambia in education.

If they call me back, I should have some more information to share. If not (highly likely), I know their number and so do you. We will ask them to rescind their invitation of the butcher of kanilai through a letter, faxed and then as registered mail to the president, Ms. Jane Margaret O'Brien, Mr. Bill Roberts, as well as the director of international education, Ms. LaRita Hagar. I have a list of their board of trustees to whom the letter will be copied as well.

Does anyone have an address or contact info, especially on The Student Union? We've got some work to do. Let's make sure, Yahya Jahanama turn out an uninvited guest. Make those calls and write to these uninformed minds. Could you imagine the devil giving a commencement address to my graduating class. Let's crash the show, if we have to. Get your posters and fliers ready. Will the real Gambians yearning for change, please stand up? This is an opportunity to put this clown in the Hall of Shame.
