African Summit in DC

News is that Jammeh is once again caged in a hotel in DC. I happen to have access to the hotel number (2026386600) and I called yesterday evening to have audience with Jammeh and his delegates, to register my concerns over their criminal reign in the Gambia. I was first transferred to a front desk receptionist who informed me that “transfer to the Gambian delegation is blocked” and when I insisted on being transferred to speak with them, I was transferred to someone who identified himself as “U.S Secret Service.” When I requested for him to transfer me to Gambia’s delegation, the man said he cannot transfer me. I enquired why. He couldn’t give me any reason other than say, “I am representing the U.S. Government.” I informed him that I was representing World Citizens, and as such, I was calling to register my concerns over their “hosting and guarding a criminal ruler.” At that point, he said “I am hanging you up.” I reminded him that it was so unprofessional for him to do that. I called several other times and the same conversation ensued.

I guess my frustration is, it is citizens right to assembly and petition ones’ Government to task, so as Gambians, we are entitled to our rights to petition the Jammeh tyranny wherever and whenever we meet them without any geographical boundary or restriction, and such petitioning is on us as citizens to decide on its method and magnitude. I think the U.S authorities need to get it right about what is happening home. While I am not against an African Summit, it will be hypocrisy at its best, for the U.S Government to start making showcase headlines (Summits) for their own political interest, without addressing someone as criminal as Jammeh, something they should be well aware of through the U.S state department.

I am even yet to address Jammeh’s part…

Warm Regards,
Yero.
