                    The Point Comes Of Age
Monday 9th January 2006

The Point has attained an important milestone in its life history, which is becoming a daily newspaper. Our esteemed readers must have noticed that as from last week, we are coming out daily (Mondays to Fridays initially). This is not only a realization of a dream long harboured by its founding fathers, but it is also a fulfilment of our late Managing Editor’s ambition. There is absolutely no doubt that the late Deyda Hydara must be quite happy in his grave, knowing that his long cherished ambition of transforming The Point into a daily paper has been realized.

Our objective in becoming a daily paper has been to fill a gap that exists in the information flow. We are conscious of the fact that Gambians have now become quite addicted to their reading culture and therefore it is incumbent on us to fill that crave for a daily material to read.

Of course we know that maintaining a quality daily paper is quite challenging, but we have accepted the challenge, knowing fully well that we have the support and goodwill of all Gambians and non-Gambians alike.

However, we wish to assure our esteemed readers and the general public that our editorial policy remains the same; which is to always endeavour to give them objective and balanced coverage of all issues of concern to the public.

We wish to take this opportunity to thank everyone for the encouragement and support through the years, particularly after the assassination of our colleague and former Managing Editor Deyda Hydara. We would therefore assure everyone that we would do everything possible to give them a daily dose of balanced news and information.
