Not so long ago, we saw this very criminal bunch present to us that garbage
they called their budget document and I told this list that that garbage is
not even worth the paper it was written on. Analyzing that garbage was just
a waste of time for anyone. Now, was this and other loots yet to be
uncovered reflected in that sham of a document? How many more millions are
we going to uncover, that Jammeh has stolen? If we as a people just turn
our backs because of fear and act like this did not happen, then we are a
lost cause. This is grounds for mass uprising in most parts of the world,
and a demand for immediate impeachment and prosecution of Jammeh, Amadou
Samba, Edrissa Jobe and all involved. Folks, now we know know where Baba
Jobe got that money to give (not loan) to the ignoramuses in that Assembly.
Folks, that was a kickback. That was the APRC Assembly Members' share of
the Mob takings. Where is Halifa, Sidia, Hamat, OJ, and Juwara? What are
Gambians waiting for? I hope the media start very soon to hit the streets
and get the masses involved. Another golden opportunity for the opposition
to rally the country and put these criminals out of business. Wake Up
Gambians! Enough of our drowsiness. Keep making some noise Ousainou Darbo.

Jammeh Pressed Over "Missing Oil"

The Independent (Banjul)

Ousainou Darboe the leader of the United Democratic Party leader is
demanding full explanation from President Jammeh for what became of 180,000
metric tons of refined petroleum given to The Gambia last November by the
Federal Republic of Nigeria.

According to Mr. Darboe who was addressing a press conference at his bureau
in Banjul, The Gambia through a special envoy had approached President
Olusegun Obasanjo for a supply of 20, 000 barrels of crude oil per day,
10,000 metric tons of diesel, known as automotive gas oil, 3,000 metric tons
of petrol, known as premium motor spirit and 5000 metric tons of heavy fuel
in order to keep the country's energy wheels going.

Darboe added that a final agreement was later signed for Nigeria by the
Managing Director of Petroleum and Product Marketing Company (PPMC), the
subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) and for The
Gambia by the then permanent secretary at the Office of the President after
an approval was made by President Obasanjo for the NNPC to supply petroleum
product to The Gambia.

He added that a total of 180, 000 metric tons (about 213.43 million litres)
of refined petroleum products were approved. The arrangement would have made
it possible for the lifting of 60, 000 metric tons of automotive gas oil,
45,000 metric tons of premium motor spirit, 45,000 metric tons of heavy fuel
oil and 30,000 metric tons of dual- purpose kerosene which started towards
the latter part of 2002 he said.

According to the UDP leader in an attempt to conceal the transaction, the
Gambia High Commissioner and the Charge d' Affairs at the time of the
transaction were replaced.

He claimed that over 350 million dollars have been realised from this
transaction, which could have impacted positively on the lives of all
Gambians on the basis of which the Nigeria government had made the offer. He
added that the oil was apparently diverted to other destinations and the
proceeds embezzled, actions, which could not have been committed without the
personal knowledge of President Jammeh as the sole initiator of the
transaction.

Darboe added that if the lifting of oil from Nigeria was done in 2002, the
Gambian budget of last year should have shown a new source of revenue
derived from this petroleum transaction. He added that this was not the case
since there is no trace of it in the government's book, making certain that
it has had ended up the same way as the notorious and inglorious "crude oil
saga" of the past. With the present economy in doldrums and foreign exchange
soaring, making the price of basic commodities to increase in leaps and
bounds, Darboe reasons over how a government like that of The Gambia could
deliberately allow such a huge amount in dollars to go missing. He said
based on these facts he could only conclude that the present government is
devoid of pity for the plight of the Gambian people. He said this was
evidence of President Jammeh's demonstrated insensitivity to the suffering
of ordinary Gambians who are wallowing in abject economic quagmire.

He said the UDP is keen to be on record as having demanded that the Jammeh
regime tell the Gambian people what has happened to the proceeds of this
latest transaction that runs into hundreds of millions of dollars which came
from a gift to the whole country from Nigerians who once again have seen
their generosity misused.

As the present saga adds to the list of corruption scandals the UDP holds
the regime for committing, Darboe urged the Nigerian Government and the
ECOWAS parliament and the country's National Assembly to act both
individually and collectively with a view to exposing this saga and possibly
imposing punitive sanctions against all the culprits irrespective of their
status.

The UDP also called on Transparency International to add its full weight on
pressure to unveil "this messy deal, which has in no small way contributed
to the backwardness and suffering of the Gambian people".
