Another savage attack on democracy! We can see clearly the message Jammeh is sending, and his intentions are clearly written and highlighted in bold ink. He wants to monopolize and accomulate state powers and all machinery of the state to satisfy his greedy thirsts. We have all seen beasts like mobuto, Samuel doe and the likes of Robert Gaye, haven`t we? Who lived lives of luxury at the expense of those they govern, and strived so hard to remain in control at all costs, who led VIP lives. And anyone who dare questiones becomes a PIV (POOR INNOCENT VICTIM), Where did they all end up? No where pleasant i guess. Jammeh is making sure he messes with the constitution and insults our reputation on a constant basis. So let`s not be surprised if one day parliment passes a bill illegalizing the existance of opposition parties, an independent press and declare the Kanilai yob the absolute dictator.
I guess this is no good news to this list of Politically sober-minded people striving and longing for change and betterment back home.
Oh! when shall this change knock our doors and redeem our nation from the destination its about to be sailed to by "Sick Pirate Pilot".
I hope he is unsitted from power very soon, but unfortunately some self-sentered folks in the opposition have "skrud" it all up. I just wish Darboe and "Boy Pullo" live to pay the price.

It looks like the phantom National Assembly with its APRC sycophants are leading the country to the doldrums.

Divisional Commissioners to be Titled Governors
Monday 10th April 2006

Deputies at the National Assembly have amended the 2002 Local Government Act, which has now changed the title of divisional commissioners to governors.

The Act also establishes a National Council of Chiefs, which is to be headed by a Paramount Chief appointed by the President.

Under this modification, local government authorities and the council shall be answerable to the governor and not the electorate.

The motion for amendment of the Act, tabled before deputies last Wednesday by Secretary of State for Local Government and Lands Ismaila Sambou, generated a heated debate between APRC members and the Opposition.

The members for Illiassa, Serekunda East and Tumana, Kebba Touray, Fabakary Tombong Jatta and Neteh Baldeh, respectively, lauded and supported the motion. They argued that the creation of a national council of chiefs would reactivate the offices of the Seyfolu and strengthen their output.

The member for Basse, Hon. Momodou Sellu Bah, called for the establishment of the Local Government Service Board as provided in the 2002 Act.

On the other hand, Hon. Halifa Sallah, member for Serekunda Central and Minority Leader at the National Assembly, described the move as retrogressive, noting that it would undermine the country’s democratic process.

Hon. Sallah said the amendment was against international standards and would derail the country’s effort in becoming a model of democracy in Africa.

The amendment was also described as a mockery to the country’s democratic process by Hon. Kemeseng Jammeh of Jarra West.

Hon. Sidia Jatta of Wuli West also termed the move as retrogressive, and urged his colleagues to legislate laws that would benefit the people and not ones that would take the country backward.
