I think a petition to demonstrate outrage is in order for the old senile
Maitre.I just cannot believe this guy really had the nerves to say what is
attributed to him. I think so highly of him, but before I jump to any
conclusions
perhaps someone else will be kind enough to verify this one way or the
other.

Subject: FWD:Wade inaugurates Banjul Magistrates' Court

Culled from The Observer

Wade inaugurates Banjul Magistrates' Court

The newly constructed Banjul Magistrates' Court along the Ecowas Avenue, was
on independence day inaugurated by the president of the Republic of Senegal,
Maitre Abdoulaye Wade. He was accompanied by his Gambian counterpart,
President Yahya Jammeh.

In his opening address, Maitre Abdoulaye Wade expressed appreciation for the
honour accorded him by President Jammeh, a man he said had upheld the rule
of law and justice in the country. President Wade said he was once a lawyer
and a law lecturer and was greatly influenced to see that justice was never
denied. He said the new magistrates' court was a clear testimony of
President Jammeh's commitment to the prevalence of peace and justice.

Maitre Wade said by strengthening the judicial system of The Gambia,
President Jammeh was showing to other African countries that he is indeed a
man of peace. He described Senegal and The Gambia as sister nations sharing
much in common. Joseph Joof, attorney general and secretary of state for
Justice said since 1994, many infrastructural development projects have been
undertaken in many sectors.

This new magistrates’ court shows the government's commitment to
strengthening the judiciary,” he said. Mr Joof disclosed that the new court
was part of the government’s programme of collaboration with the World Bank
and other institutions to enhance the dispensation of justice. Justice Itam,
the acting Chief Justice, said it was significant for President Wade to
preside over the opening of the court, noting that he was once a lawyer. He
said court construction works are under way in other parts of the country to
expedite the dispensation of justice across the country.

IEC to embark on infrastructural development

The Independent Electoral Commission chairman, Mr Gabriel Roberts has
disclosed in an interview with the Daily Observer that the commission’s
objectives for the next five years involved the development of
infrastructure in several administrative areas to facilitate its work. He
said the commission would ensure that the voter register was up todated,
noting that the registering of Gambians abroad during electoral process was
a future project which needed feasibility study on how to assess the people
and also look at its financial implications.

The commission chairman also said the conduct of free and fair elections in
the country was a major objective that would promote the culture of peace.
