I think we all agree on the prohibition of building elaborate tombs. The question is
what do we do with the ones that are already there? destroy them ?
This is a very interesting point to bring up .No one should be allowed to build them
anymore . In Lebanon for example there are the burial sites of prophets John
(Yahyah)) and Zakarieh (peace be upon them) . I found them very interesting and
educational in the sense that questions were answered that I did not know and knowing
the kind of environment they lived told me a lot about the lives of these prophets.
I did not worship the tombs but I actually went to see them out of curiosity . It
strengthened my faith  further by solidifying what we were told in the Holy Quran 's
words and actual "evidence" quote ,unquote.
I will pass on this issue agreeing with you on all the main premises but begging to
differ on the issue of looking or visiting such historic sites.
