As for the frequent hiring and firings going on, I
have said it before that I don't like commenting on
specific incidents if those directly affected would
rather not discuss it. However, taken in their
generality, they can, in my opinion, at best breed
suspicion among the civil servants and also minimise
the use of discretion where the rules are not very
clear or are non-existent. This stiffles innovation
and change which I strongly believe is in short supply
among Gambians in general and the civil service in
particular."

Don't you think it is about time that we have Civil
Service Review Commission. The recent hiring and
firing by President Jammeh clearly indicates that
there is an urgent need for structural and operational
reforms within the Civil and Public Service. Our Civil
Service needs stability and APRC has failed badly on
that aspect. I am a bit worried as to what has gone
wrong with the General Orders of the Civil Service.
According to the General Orders, there are several
penalties that can be imposed against a Civil Servant.
Unfortunately, for those Fired Civil Servants, none of
them have been asked to face a disciplinary hearing
and as a result none of them can benefit from the
penalties stipulated under the General Orders.

Finally, I do not agree with your explanation for not
speaking up. The sacking of Civil Servants is an
injustice which all of us should speak against.

Remember the words of President Olusegun Obsanjo;
THOSE WHO FAIL TO SPEAK AGAINST THE EVIL ARE GUILTY AS
THOSE WHO COMPROMISE WITH THE EVIL"

On that note I await your response.
