Very Much respect to all and everyone who knows and honored Paps Touray
and his contributions to the Music, Arts and culture of The Gambia and
Africa. There are many stories told but it was all sumed-up in his
masterclass work and complilation Album of Mandingo Beat with the Soto
Koto which he demonstrated his Master-musicianship and leadership. " A
statement of resit to quit and exist".
He was a Julius Ceaser, who conqured many musical barriers but at the
end he had an ending like Kwame Nkumarah,Sekou Toure or Lumumber.He w
as
betrayed for too long and denied his rightful place in our society.
He Lived long in Hollad as his base worked with me for many years in
Amsterdam and have recorded most of  his great tunes with me ,
especially the big anthem tunes he wrote for Ifangbondi. He has played
in all the big stages in the Europe and he has a worldwide album
released in Hollywood in California by Higher Octave/Virgin records.
He did not make a million in his lifetime but he is a treasure who
cannot be measured in Gold. He invented the Ndaga- Mbalax Music and the
Afro Mndingo sounds of Senegambia. He planted the seeds and the fruits
are ripe all over Senegal, Guinea, Mali and the Gambia.
He was a freedom fighter for the workers and students,  the National
goalkeeper of the Gambia and he formed Ifangbondi and wrote most of the
materials, sometimes with Kunon Jarjutay ( Senemie Francis Taylor).
He did not walk away from Ifang bondi (that he formed
,)  Ifangboni
walked away from him.
We will all miss him in person but his music and great history will live
with us forever.
