MP Suso Speaks On Illegal Sand Mining 

The Kombo North National Assembly member, Musa Suso,has  told Daily Observer that illegal sand mining in Brufut must be stopped and sand dealers should be prosecuted if caught. 

Mr Suso expressed his concern that the continuous mining of sand in the area will  increase sea erosion which might threaten the village.  He recalled that sand mining in Brufut started when villages in Kombo North district decided to construct a mosque, markets and other structures for social amenities.  "That has automatically spawned more illicit sand dealers," Mr Suso said. 

Mr Suso said the people of Brufut, like the people of any other settlement, want to live in safety and in a protected environment, "which is why unregulated sand mining must stop." 

Mr Suso recommended that trucks that operate late at night around Brufut                                                                should be intercepted and checked to ascertain whether they are not carrying sand.  He said members of the disbanded July 22 Movement had set up a surveillance network and arrested illegal sand dealers caught in the vicinity of Brufut beach. 

Mr Suso said he will soon meet the youths of Brufut to discuss the menace of illegal sand mining and appealed to all youths in Brufut to arrest any person suspected of sand mining without correct document.
