This is from the Independent.

As they say, my body die for these young men and women. I hope IGP Njie and his boss do realize what this really means. What a shame!

No uniform for police recruits

The unavailability of complete uniforms is delaying the ceremonial passing out of 114 police officers who recently completed training at the Police Training School at Yundum. Last Friday, the newly trained officers were assigned to various police stations and units across the country without uniforms. One of the policemen said they passed out of the training school without the usual formalities, and were ordered to report at the police headquarters, Monday, April 23 before being assigned to their various duty stations.

Another one said the situation was the result of budgetary constraints currently militating against the operations of the police department. Contacted on the matter, the inspector-general of police, Ebou Njie, said the trousers meant for the recruits were being tailored and would be available soon. He blatantly dismissed claims that the police department was facing some budgetary constraints, arguing that the force was financially strong to administer its affairs.

IGP Njie said the 114 newly recruited officers were posted to provide policing assistance to various outlets of the force inorder to acquire practical experience before they would be recalled to the training school. "When the uniforms are intact, they would be recalled for a week-long rehearsal for a ceremonial passing out parade," he reassured.
