Re:A SAD CASE FOR A CORRUPT GAMBIAN MINISTER-YANKUBA TOURAY TRYING TO BEAT THE SYSTEM!!!
Following our investigative piece on Yankuba Touray’s fraudulent activities in an attempt to beat the US Health Care delivery system by sending his wife to deliver here, reactions are pouring at the Gambia L mailing list, following this latest corruption scandal involving a Gambian Minister. The Freedom Newspaper publications are usually forwarded to The Gambia L and The Gambia Post mailing lists in a bid to reach a wider audience. Below are reactions to our story, which was forwarded to The Gambia L. Please read on….

MORE REVELATIONS ON YANKBUBA'S CORRUPTION SCAM!!!
  Ousman Ceesay
I think what is happening in most of these cases is that the American tax payer end up footing the medical bill. Yankuba and his like are exploiting the law requiring hospitals in the United States to provide emergency treatment to anyone with or without medical insurance. They send their spouses in and have them stay with relatives until their due date. They are then rushed to hospital. The baby is delivered and mission accomplished as far as they are concerned. With no verifiable identification, the hospitals end up billing medicaid for their services and mr and mrs taxpayer end up paying to have yankuba's child become a US citizen.

I am not disputing the allegations made in this story whatsoever. But the vast majority of officials who send their spouses to US for delivery are nothing but medicaid frauds.

  Hello, Ousman,
I'd wondered about that myself. The Medicaid program has something called” emergency medicaid" whereby a non-US citizen can receive treatment for an emergency, although only treatment for the injury, or birth of a child, in this case, is received, no Postpartum coverage or anything like that is received.
For example, if a woman, who is not a US citizen, goes into the hospital for the birth of her child, she can be approved for emergency Medicaid where the birth of the child is covered, but nothing else. Thus, she, know her husband, would be responsible for the bill.
As you said, though, we can't say for sure if this is what's going on here, but this is something to keep in mind. Someone is paying the bill, whether it's the Gambian taxpayer, or the American ones.
Also, all a woman needs to do this, is have a verifiable address in the US, and this could be accomplished by staying with relatives.
Now, I know here in Tennessee, starting in July, people receiving TennCare / Medicaid will have to provide proof of citizenship, i.e., through birth certificates or passports, but I'm not sure if this would apply to the emergency Medicaid or not.

  Editor's note:
Following our story this editor received phone calls from some Gambians, who expressed concern over the implications of running such a piece. That the piece might caused more harm than good to our country. That it might spoil the chances of others who might want to come to the US to deliver.
Well this editor carefully listened to the callers, before he explained his side of the story. The editor told the callers in no uncertain terms that the piece was not malicious at all and was geared for the common good. He told the callers that The Gambia is bigger than Yankuba Touray and therefore the interest of the state overrides the interest of an individual.
That this paper never regretted one moment for exposing corrupt Yankuba Touray and cares less about how some self-centered people will view our report. The editor also told the callers that The Gambia is denied development because of this culture of “Masala” and silence syndrome. He challenged the callers to join the Freedom Newspaper, in exposing the corrupt leadership back home.
That the likes of Yanks are denying development to our country. This paper owes no obligation to anybody and will not condone dictation. The Freedom Newspaper according to the editor will further dig into Yank’s fraudulent activities. He assured the paper’s readers about Freedom Newspaper’s commitment to expose graft in all its form.
