THE toll of civilians killed by Kony rebels rose at the weekend with the murder of more than 10 civilians in separate incidents.

The rebels killed five people on Saturday in Aloi sub-county, Moroto.

Uganda People's Defence Force (UPDF) spokesman in Lira, Chris Magezi, told The New Vision yesterday the rebels killed two people at Akura parish and three more were found dead at Anyanga parish, all in Aloi sub-county.

He said a group of about 20 to 30 rebels raided the villages at around 1:00am on Friday but were repulsed by the UPDF.

He said civilians were fleeing their homes of their own accord, adding that they had sent more troops to the area.

Magezi said another four people were killed at Adwoki parish, Agwata sub-county on Friday when the rebels raided their village.

A journalist from Adwoki said the Rhino Militia boys ambushed a small group of rebels and rescued an unconfirmed number of captives after they had killed another three people in the county on Sunday.
