APRC IN CRISIS-INTERNAL INFIGHTING ENGULFS THE PARTY!!!
           EDITORIAL
Dictator Jammeh, is far from certain about his political future. We learned that his ruling APRC, is divided today with internal infighting and unnecessary political bickering amongst party militants. It is reported that the Party’s Lamin meeting was cancelled due to lack of audience. The villagers are pissed off with his regime. The APRC Jali Touray, shocked by the poor attendance, decided to call off the meeting and proceeded to a near by town in the locality.

  APRC IN CRISIS
The system is crumbling and there is no doubt in our mind that Jammeh’s own militants have started the politics of “Jangfa” with few months ahead of the elections. If Jammeh’s party cannot hold meetings these days because of lack of followers, should be a cause of concern not only to Jammeh, but his di heart supporters.
The Freedom Newspaper, has been reliably informed that the party‘s executive were upset with Jammeh’s recent move to invite the old guards into his government. The likes Fatoumatta Jahumpa Ceesay, Aji Fatou Sallah, Churchill Baldeh and Eduward Singhateh are said to be hiding behind the fence these days. That their loyalty for the party is questionable in many quarters within the APRC circles. That these people are sidelined by Jammeh and as such are very, very angry with the dictatorship. This is the talk going around town.
Jammeh’s future is bleak. He made more enemies than friends on a daily basis. It is reported that the sacking and the subsequent prosecution of the popular Kanifing Municipality Mayor Lie Conteh, also added more fire to the already divided Ruling APRC. It is imperative to note that Conteh, is commanding a lot of support in that Municipality. Most of his supporters were said to have renounced their support for Yahya and his government. This led to wide spread speculations that Conteh is likely to set up a political party to oppose Jammeh.
Well, we at the Freedom Newspaper, don’t buy that theory. While we cannot completely rule out that Conteh, had changed his loyalty for Jammeh, in view of the bad blood that transpired between the two, it is also imperative to note that Conteh could be of good use to the opposition if approached to help send this administration packing. He can act behind the scenes by asking his supporters not to vote for Jammeh and his government. This is a possibility. Forming a political party could be suicidal for him, even though he have all rights to take part in the democratization process. Knowing how dictatorial Jammeh is, he will do everything humanely possible to hunt Conteh. We have seen civil servants fired and jailed for merely expressing their support for the opposition.
Now that Jammeh is living in the life of insecurity, this is the time for the opposition to put their house in order to effect positive change of leadership. 2006, is a golden opportunity for them. Despite Jammeh’s attempts to seek prayers from his “Marabouts” in Guinea Conakry, with the hope of dividing NADD, there is still a window of opportunity for the opposition to settle their differences.
The mere fact that Jammeh is running after the PPP old guards and other influential opposition big guns in the country, goes to show that the man is not certain about election victory. Jammeh, lost faith in the likes of Eduward Singhateh, Fatoumatta Jahumpa Ceesay, Aji Fatou Sallah, Churchill Baldeh and others. Gambians should not be surprised if he releases Baba K Jobe, before the 2006 polls.
It is reported that Jammeh told a close associate that Edu lied against Baba in a bid to bring his government down. He said despite the bad things they talked about the jailed politician, Baba was capable of attracting support for the party when the likes of Edu are dead party militants. That they are dormant party officials. This information was given to us by somebody very close to Yahya. We gathered that Edu, is very upset about the way Yahya sidelined him these days.
The AFPRC/APRC was not formed on the basis of truth and justice. The current division going on within the party never came as a surprise to some of us, who are acquainted with Gambian domestic politics. They will end up eating each other before the entire system crumbled. Jammeh, is a betrayer and will do whatever it takes to mortgaged those who helped him to be what he is today. What we are witnessing today is the crumbling of the APRC government. They will be buried and late to rest come October 2006. This is no political gimmick. Time will tell. We rest our case…..
