           APRC BRANCH FORMED IN ATLANTA

Sources in the United States of America have informed
the Daily Observer of the formation of a branch of the
Gambian ruling Alliance for Patriotic Re-orientation
and Construction (APRC) Party. Sources confirmed that
Salifu Jallow was elected chairman and Momodou Barry
(Big Barry) secretary general of the new APRC Branch
in Atlanta Georgia (USA), in April 2002. In an
interview with the Daily Observer Alhaji Momodou
Barry, alias Big Barry, the Secretary General said the
new APRC Branch was in line with the APRC constitution
to encourage Gambians in every part of the world to
establish party branches. “There is no more debate
about whether the APRC is the right party for our
country. What we Gambians talk about each day is the
number of new projects being implemented by our
dynamic president, Dr Alhaji Yahya Jammeh, his
commitment to improve the living standards of all
Gambians, his drive to restore peace in West Africa
and the world, and also his comprehensive agenda for
the welfare and progress of Gambian women and
children.” Mr Barry disclosed that in Atlanta over 80%
of Gambians today support President Jammeh “because
all of us here realised that Jammeh is a good man and
has a good agenda for our country.” He used the
occasion to thank President Jammeh for granting an
audience to their chairman, Salifu Jallow recently in
New York. He said President Jammeh’s speech at the UN
Special Session for children, made Gambians very proud
“because we all know that our president has the
irresistible impulse to speak the truth at any time,
anywhere. ” He revealed that they had sent a letter to
the APRC Headquarters in Banjul to formally inform the
party of their establishment. “The APRC community is
working on a project to extend an invitation to
President Jammeh to visit Atlanta with an APRC
delegation.” He also praised the efforts of Hon Ramzia
Diab, nominated National Assembly member whom he
described as “very positive and highly instrumental”
for the establishment of the new APRC Branch. Big
Barry also commended the Department of State for
Tourism and Culture for the celebration of Gambian
culture in the Sixth International Roots Festival
coming up from June 1 - 9, 2002. He appealed to
Gambians in the diaspora to support the festival in
every way possible. Other executive members of the
branch include Madam Kotoring Mambouray, Momodou
Sanneh (Alias Dr Nick), Edi Jagne, Cousin Jallow and
Moro Sanyang. Momodou Big Barry hails from Latrikunda,
a former school teacher, and a pioneer in the Tourism
Industry, having worked as Operations Manager for
Gamtours for many years. Big Barry has also published
A Guide book to The Gambia on Gambian Tourism.
